I first listened to Lizz Wright ten years ago when her album Salt was released, featuring one of my idols – Brian Blade on drumming, arranging and producing duties. Its a wonderful album and it was on continuous repeat at that time.

So, it was a complete honour to be asked to perform with her on Jools Holland’s TV show. We played two tracks off Liz’s latest album, Freedom & Surrender, which also features a drumming hero – Vinnie Colaiuta. Its a great album also.

Was a joy to make music with Lizz and the guys. Heres the performance :

Extremely proud to say that I am now an artist for Sabian cymbals. I have been a fan of their cymbals for many years and believe that what they are producing¬†these days is of an exceptional standard. I picked out cymbals from their Artisan, HHX and new Big & Ugly ranges, aswell as a “chopper”. I am very, very happy with how they sound and look forward to putting them through their paces.

I was back at the Royal Albert Hall a couple of weeks after the Ibiza Prom for a bit more. This time honoured to have been asked to come in and play with the unbelievable Metropole Orchestra from Holland on their BBC 1xtra Grime Prom . My role was to organise all the drum electronics and extra samples needed within the music.

We backed up a whole host of talent including Wretch32, Chip, Stormzy, Kano, Lethal Bizzle, Krept & Conan, Shola Ama, Fekky and Little Simz.

To celebrate Radio 1’s 20 year association with the music of Ibiza, Pete Tong decided to host an “Ibiza Prom” at this years BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall. I was in the percussion section of the mighty Heritage Orchestra, working alongside my cronies to re-create these classic tracks. The gig was a massive success and was the top downloaded track of the season and was also the top trending thing on twitter for a few days!! Hopefully well do it again someday….

Playing with Paolo this summer has been one of the best musical experiences of my life. The boy can sing, and playing behind him is a complete joy and an honour. Enough said! Also, playing in a band with so many Scots is FUN.

A week of fun and madness with the great Goldie has just happened again. After the success of last years show, three more were put in for this year and they did not disappoint. Two sold out shows at the Royal Festival Hall and a huge outdoor gig in Bristol went off!! Especially night 2 at the RFH, which smelt like a weed factory, and everyone going bananas by about 5 minutes into the gig was a buzz.

Really looking forward to making more music with Goldie in the future, his spirit is infectious. Big props to me ol’ muchair Adam Betts on the other drum kit.

Over the summer, I was lucky enough to have been asked to play with Jamie Cullum. We did a variety of shows all over the place and the line-up ranged from trio to full band, and even a couple of gigs with a full big band, great fun. Playing at North Sea Jazz Festival and getting to meet and hang with the great Greg Hutchinson were highlights. A few gigs to around 20,000 screaming nut-jobs were also pretty fun! Heres the big band in Stuttgart :

Over the last month I was asked to produce the musical backdrop for the launch of Net-A-Porter’s new app – The Net Set. A song was chosen – “The In Crowd” – and I set out to create a number of versions for use on all promotional content for the app.

I very much enjoyed this experience and the music seems to be getting a lot of love. Net-A-Porter liked it so much they even decided they wanted a “single” version which is available to purchase on iTunes here :¬†

Here is the 45sec version :

I have recently completed a short UK tour with Ghostpoet which saw us perform in 8 cities as well as record a session for BBC 6 music and a festival in Rotterdam at the end. We also found time to film for French TV show “Le Ring” in Paris. Next month, its a full European tour.
